MALÅ Borehole Antennas

The MALÅ Borehole Antenna series are a powerful tool,
often used to obtain information at greater depths
than is obtainable with surface GPR.

 MALÅ Geoscience manufactures the only commercially available borehole GPR
system that can perform surveys deeper than 30 meters, due
to the use of fiber optic cables for communication.

In fact, the MALÅ Borehole Systems have been used successfully to
depths in excess of 2500 m.

Common measurement methods include single-hole
reflection mode, cross-hole mode (tomography) and
surface-to-borehole mode.

The area of investigation is a cylinder shaped volume around
the borehole with a radius of 10 - 100 m (dependent on
electrical properties of the media under investigation).

In reflection mode the transmitter and receiver are deployed
in the same borehole. The antennas are dipoles and radiate
and receive reflected signals omni-directionally.

Data is displayed in real time using the MALÅ GroundVision
software. To determine the exact distance and bearing of
the reflector in this mode requires scans in at least three
boreholes.

MALÅ Shielded Antennas

MALÅ Shielded Antennas are designed for use in urban areas
or sites with a lot of background noise.

A MALÅ Shielded Antenna consists of both transmitter and receiver antenna
elements in a single housing. The design ensures that the
transmitted radar energy is only emitted from the bottom
of the antenna housing, where it is in contact with the
ground and protects the receiver element from external
signals (noise) from directions other than the bottom of the
housing, where it is located.

All MALÅ Shielded Antennas are equipped with a pulling
eye on the front of the housing for attaching tow handles or
straps.

A fastening block at the back of the housing allows
connection of a distance-measuring wheel. The wheel
operates as a triggering device instructing the radar system
to collect traces at operator pre-set distant intervals.
Removable skid / wear plates protect the bottom of the
antenna housing ensuring they last and thereby protect the
user’s investment.

Like all MALÅ GPR systems, the MALÅ Shielded Antennas
are modular by design. This means that antenna electronics,
pulling devices and measuring wheels are compatible
and interchangeable. This reduces the cost for owning or
expanding a system.

just a bit of info .    according to okm personnel, the said okm equipment should be adjusted to philippine soil. otherwise, okm will be ineffective...

Renantiur,

As you might have notice in previous discussions, we always emphasize the operating frequencies.

The greater the frequency used in GPR's transmitter, the shallower is its penetration conversely, the lower the frequency used in GPR's transmitter, the deeper is its penetration.

And that is one reason i am featuring this new types of GPR (New Generation GPR's) from different manufacturers, which falls under the UWB GPR (Ultra wide band- which carries different frequencies from lower to higher frequencies)

So for me, if OKM's operating frequency is fixed, then there's nothing you can do. However we can check on what frequency does OKM EXP 5000 operates, then we can have a grasp on its deepness of penetration.

Just always remember the factors also that affects GPR's depth of penetration like soil conductivity, presence of wet clay and etc.

Thus a good GPR must carry different frequencies from low to high, so that, when a GPR operator is confronted with all those factors, he can adjust to or use the appropriate frequency.

As per observation, OKM EXP 5000 fares way behind compared to these featured GPR's.

Bro Kizuna, there is 4 Low Frequency Boxes for the Exp 4000, 5000, etc of OKM but for the moment, I think it's no longer available. Just my contribution on this topic.

I don't know but the last time I check on Kellyco, the low frequency 4 boxes is no longer sold. The super sensor is different and also have the limitations as Kizuna is discussing right now. Try to see if they are offering again. Others say, the two box system is good for deeply buried objects but did not yet tried. I hope I answered your query bro.

Hello :) :) :) i'm back,

Well, to admit i was also confused for sometime about this OKM EXP 5000 whether it can be really classified as a true GPR or not since in OKM's advertisements they never made it clear whether it is such.
My observation however is that OKM's EXP 5000 is simply a metal detector packaged with other Geophysical instruments to create the HYPE and so it commanded a very high price.

And hold your seats comrades, let's analyze it bit by bit, including the other geophysical instruments that comes from it as a package though some are optional.
