Poison gases
« on: May 21, 2010, 07:15:51 AM »
???  Just curious to know how you guys ( the experts and experienced in this forum ) handle poison gases. I am referring to nerve gases, cyanide etc. I think these are more than just methane. Symptoms are really neuromuscular in nature. In a previous site, 5 years ago some of our men sadly did not make it (God bless their souls )

For those with actual experience ( not the theoreticians please ), am all ears to know what you did about it ?

acording to the US intel, nerve gases were never used in Asia, however......
poisonous gases like cyanide were common and wil no doubt kill you.

as most gases dissipate quickly, it will not be known just what was used, their intel comes from the soldiers themselves.....

in other words, yes you may come across poisonous gases whilst Thunting, if you do, then you have to vent out he cave/tunnel with lots of air....pump outside the tunnel/cave/hole, pump air in for at least 2 days...
others may have their version also of how to......... ;)

In the so called Mt Billionaire, In Palanan, Isabela. 3 man died in a cave (the cave entrance is accessible only by diving under water) due to gas poisoning. They were able to get the bodies after pumping lots, lots and lots of water inside the cave but that caused the water at the entrance very very itchy.

Janner,

1) The Japs developed and tested many chemical weapons and poison gases and used them extensively in China ("Yellow munitions (Mustard, Lewisite), Red munitions (Diphenylcyanoarsine, Diphenylchloroarsine), Red canisters, Green canisters (Chloroacetophenone) and drum cans containing Yellow agents." )
see - www.nti.org/db/china/acwpos.htm and Seagraves Gold Warriors.

2) Robert Curtis discussed methane gases when he opened the Teresa Tunnels.

3) We have encountered gas poisons in our own sites. They are in powder form and ingeniously mixed with stones, sand and tar. They dissipate slowly. Some of our people were hit, others hit hard.

Dindo,

Cyanide when aereted or mixed with water turns to HCN or hydrocyanic acid which then causes blisters upon contact with the skin.

What did they do about it in isabela ?

If you mean about the  ;D Deadly Cave in Palanan near the beach?...We investigate the cave site and have some photo ops there at the mouth of the cave. According to local native Roel (his brother died there)...it was poison gas that killed them but not the Japs poison gas but their suspect was Col. Galang who intentionally poison them bcoz they were warned by Col. galang not to enter his treas cave site...the Thunters insist to continue, after a few days, suddenly they screaming with poison gas...and died. Probably Col. Galang gassed them. Their bloating bodies was retrieved about a week later by Phil. army.

Some native asset, his hut was blown up by Col. Galang bcoz he explored the treasure cave in the area.

How about looking for natural inhabitants like bats, if you see them flying in or exiting the cave then maybe its safe....

Work stopped again in our project for 2 months now because of these gases which are very lethal.  Even dogs and cats who just walk nearby die in minutes and with bloated stomachs. Before we stopped, one of our men, started to vomit blood, so we had to stop until we can solve the gas problem...downright scary..

In previous discussions years ago, some knowleadgeable people suggested using kerosene. We tried that, but then the place became impossible to enter and we had to blower air out for a long time.

We have a source of Japanese neutralizers but they are darn darn expensive and we need a lot and have run out of funds - that is why we are interested in alternative approaches if any - but only those that are tried and tested.

...a real predicament !!!

...another solution is to find a big financier, which will make the cost of the neutralizers - peanuts.

...a voice crying out in the wilderness...

coolfun 125,

i also encountered poison gas in my ongoing project, its color white and placed in cement container. before going thru poison trap you will encounter poison markers like biting animal, dog, snakes etc. in my case,we bypass the 1st poison placed in an oblong shape cement container. the 2nd time,we got markers 5 ft before we hit poison. we apply blower fan to neutralize, the toxic remains but the diggers can manage the itchy smell and watery eyes. my mentor, before he died, is using japan made poison anti dote.its like a detergent soap mix in water and apply to the area and it will penetrate the poison soil at 4 ft. he also encountered lots of poison trap, the most lethal is liquid form in bottles ,as of now only 1 kilo anti dote were left. i also use activated carbon/charcoal and its also effected. try google activated carbon for more info. the best thing is used gas mask for better protection.
