Is that secret tunnel located at bravo hill sir janner?
sorry but "No", most of my tunnels are in Northern Luzon/Mountain Provinces and a few in central Luzon..
along a few seashores as well....
But wont disclose their locations (actual) as investigations are still going on in a few by teams. ;)
plus we dont want the wrong people going there by reading this forum....... :-\
Ok, will put some more pics here then...
regards
-
some rough Japanese dug tunnels
-
more japanese tunnels and some bits found
-
caves along the shores that hid explosive filled small motor boats
"Suicide Boats" i might add...!
-
some "Clues" for you......
some "Air shafts" that will tell you a tunnel is close by, or even a bunker and complex.
to have a air shaft it will be quite big and or long...
-
2 pics that belong with the secret tunnel pics....
and not a Isometric theoretical design anywhere :P ...just good old honest detection and research, and a lot of hard work....
and fun of course........... :D

some more tunnels, lots of the tunnels had collapsed roofs, and were just to much work to clear it out, so were left. (when we have nothing to do)
this being the major problem with tunnels.....
-
some more for you, look at them as though you have just found them, this will give you ideas where to look, what they look like and also how safe are they. (most important!) to go inside.... ;)
-
more....told you i had loads.... :)
-
dont forget, there is 20 yrs of exploration here......not just a weekend.... ;)
-
more....
-
We recce on bikes, by foot along jungle trails, makeshift camps that are easy to remove,
have to be fit and dedicated to do this at times... :D
-
7 mm machine guns rusted down to useless, Large shell found by my friend, he wanted to take it home.????
and a anti aircraft gun in the middle of nowhere...strange.....
oh yes and a picture given to us by a old igorot of the Mountains
-
Janner, all of those pictures are awesome and amazing! Thanks for sharing.

and more...told you there was a lot.... ;)

more..

seeking clues..
looking at the hole, it once contained a post and another clue was the what looked like a "electrical" terminal in the last pic, was in fact a "Antenna' Connector"..... so with that, we are in the area of a "Japanese communications tunnel'..?
Research and investigation guys....the only way to do it...!!
Regards
-
What does it look like after 65+ years...???
First pic WWII take by Japanese newsreel
next pic is the same walls after clearing the jungle...
next one.... the area today.....Wow !!!
-
Crawling through tunnels, lots of junk and...collapsed at the end.
the life of the Hunter is not all easy and rewarding....
the color of the earth is a give away too... ;)
-
well this is quite amazing.....
Of all the pics of tunnels posted...not one question about them, or queries on how do you find them..??
Most odd. I can only assume all the newer guys here "know all about them or are just not interested"..Strange.?
But never mind...I had fun finding these and quite a few adventures too...hope you can do the same one day..?
And of course the learning goes on and on.... ;)
-
very amazing find worth to share

Janner I wanted to ask you that exact question but I thought you would just reply something like; 'Research, research and more research!' Believe me, I definitely am interested to know HOW THE HECK YOU FOUND ALL OF THOSE! Anything you want to add here is always greatly appreciated!

Part 1
Finding tunnels is not that easy, in fact really hard without prior research and investigation...
I f you dont do any of the above, then you will be walking around forever in the jungle w/o a clue !
so........
Find out where and who was in the suspected area, name of the Japanese company, how big was it and was the camp temporary or permanent? You need, books maps, internet and wwii history, and a really nosy disposition.. :)
Was there a POW camp nearby as well. forced labor came from these. Was there or is there a road or track..?
do not ask local people anything, or they become curious and also know your there. ;)
Next look for a line, this is a cliff face or hill that can support tunnels, Rock tunnels last a long time, while earth tunnels collapse after short periods and are more dangerous too...(due to movement and or water)
When a tunnel is dug, the spoils has to be put somewhere, and usually it ends up in the front of the tunnel and makes either a mound or large raised area which seems or feels unnatural to the rest of the surrounding area...and at the edges of this area will be a steeper drop to the original ground below...
The tunnel made into rocky areas has shale in the front of it, this is small pieces of rock that has been broken, blasted or drilled from the cliff face...you can tell the difference as they will have sharp edges, unlike the older rocks which will be smoothed.
Rocks of different sizes which have been removed from the tunnel are a different color than the ones outside, as they were not subject to the weather over time.
If there was a Japanese company nearby, then tunnels usually are bigger, or more complex, like side tunnels and rooms.
One company to be aware of is the 54th Engineering company, as they seem to have been everywhere that large tunnels have been dug.
(That was a "Free Clue" ) ;)
End Part 1.......
-
Part 2.
Some tunnels which are what i call the "Lucky ones" are found by pure luck, you either stumble upon them while roaming around in the jungle, or,...fall down the dam hole. And that can be funny...if 2 feet deep, or, Dangerous if 15m deep!! So..watch out !!
Tunnels that have purpose built interior are usually well defined, tracks, lots of spoils and large opening...but all grown over with 65 yrs of growth...this is where your gut feeling tells you something is here, but where.? clues..clues searching for anything that should not be there
anything which a human would use, discard or drop...?
And this all takes ...time..days weeks even months to find tunnels which you know are there, one took us 5 yrs to find, but we found it and it was our Savior too.. ;)
and even when you have found the tunnel it will take time to, to investigate the inside, tunnels, side links, rooms, various levels and stairs and of course the one we have to be really on the ball for.."Booby traps"....and yes we have found them, from grenades to 1000 pound bombs.....! :o
end of Part 2...
-
That's Excellent! You are really a great teacher here!
Thanks!
TW
-
Sir Janner,
Thanks a lot for the information and idea, It's truly a big help of knowledge. In regard to the booby trap of your part 2 story. can you please detail or give some idea how the japanese placed the 1000 pound bomb as a booby trap?
Regards,
Johny ;)
-
Every "Booby Trap" is a explosive with a trigger, this device is usually hidden and goes off when someone moves it in one way or another.
Others are remotely detonated via electronics....
with our devices that we find, we have 2 explosive guys amongst us who do the work....
we "DO NOT" Teach this skill to anyone, as it cannot be learned in a few days,
it takes months of practical experience and tuition to be able to do it...
and everyone is different..so to tell you how to diffuse that Device would be irresponsible of us.
As yours may go "Bang" and then you would blame us..... ;)
so with that said....Google this.......
"Vietnam booby traps". "Iraqi Booby traps" and you will have more than enough information......
But I give you fair Warning....Be so Freaking Careful if you are going to fool around with this stuff....
"YOU wont hear the bang" but your friends will and see the pieces go by !!!!

Can we give Janner a standing ovation please for this accomplishment...

This has now gone to a friend, as there was quite a few papers and log/diaries in it to. So i need them translated,
perhaps i can find the family of this Officer ?
anyway will update you on the results
-
the diaries might contain some interesting story that can give birth to a new movie, like the "letters from iwojima" :)
-
I see Mr Zeeker is already up in the clouds......
come down Mr, back to reality and maturity....... ;)

Yes! That would be awesome! Maybe this kind of thing can also make a very interesting documentary! This is really cool stuff.

great discovery..

Now this is the answer to Zobex's tauntings to Janner to show proofs of his workings.
I believe its your turn now Zobex to show proofs of your talkings. Show more proofs please.
When we say something here it should be supported by proofs--that can be photo proofs..
Northstar, i believe its time for you to rest your unproven isometrics to rest.
Janner discovered all those with plain and simple Analysis, logic and last (which is the most uncommon), through common sense.

Translating all of the papers and diary will take some time, but so far the name of the owner was "First Lieutenant Okajima".
whether its possible to trace his descendants/family I have no idea, but we will give it a go.
anyway just to let you know we do have a name now..... ;)

Yea, that's really awesome, Janner. I think it will be possible to trace this guy's relatives one day.
Who's doing the translations? A Japanese national?
TW
-
Hello guys. Since you are discussing one "Okajima" or something that sounds like that, may I know if anybody ever came across a certain Japanese-Filipino national whose name is "Kojima"? His name kept popping up in our wanderings and I believe he was privy to many treasure sites as he was associated with Bado Dangwa's men who interrogated surrendering Japanese soldiers then. Thanks in advance.
-
you are hijacking this thread Myres, ask your questions i the proper place and thread pls. !!
TW-The translations are being done by a Japanese national who is a teacher here, also a good friend of mine.
(his daughter is incredible) sshhh....... ;)

Sorry Sir Janner. I didn't mean to sidetrack the thread. It just came natural to me - to be reminded of something which I thought could be closely associated to the topic. Anyway, could you pleae redirect me to the proper road? It really seems I lost my way.

sir janner, on your quest or experience to tunnels is there a favorite place or common area where u used to find something inside or behind wall in the tunnel? like for example a 20mtrs jap tunnel with a 5 mtrs curved before end. where do you usually find something, is it at the end part, on the curve part in the middle or opening.. thanks..

with reference to the above....
No there isnt any specific place, as Japanese placed object in coincidence with how much time they had...ie: 3 weeks time to dig a good sized hole, probably nearer the end of the tunnel...1/2 day, time only for a quick hole nearby...
then it depends on what type of tunnel, with rooms, with cellars, with upstairs see what i mean? so scan your tunnel first and see whats what..?
;)
-
Hello Sir Janner, may I ask you If you had encounter closed tunnel? I have seen a letter T in the entrance.
-
ok thanks so much sir Jan, I will try my luck next time on that tunnel, it was a straight tunnel about 20mtrs, then it curves about about 5mtrs before the end so u cant see the end when ur at the entrance using a spotlight.. it was well carved on a mountain side, the side of the tunnel is smooth but its not cemented, it has 2feet water inside near the end even this summer days so disappointing to stay for a long time inside of it.. never mind the scan cant afford those..
-
wow, sir J , nice one. a salute from me to u.
