Title: Palladium or not?
Post by: rcalacat on March 03, 2014, 02:07:49 PM
Hello. We found these 22kg unknown metals along with bigger ones labeled PD 106.4-46 weighing 217kgs each, which we know is palladium. The smaller ones seemed to have tarnished, but once we had it polished using a machine showed up to be on the following photo. These photos by the way were taken 6 months after being polished and showed no signs of rusting eversince. These were found on a shipwreck. Any insights will be very much appreciated.

Interesting material. One suggestion I have is for you to drill out some shavings and take the shavings to one of the metal testing shops there in Manila. Then they will analyze and tell you exactly what metal content is there.

Good luck!

maybe it is a (RAW) palladium that will be used for industries or companies, maybe used in Heavy Equipments or Machineries..... and melt it with other materials for Industrial use.

Thanks TW and curscute. We had the material assayed and it's not palladium. It turned out to be platinum mixed with gold and silver. And apparently, the bar is coated with iron, hence the tarnish.

Is this really true? Did you see the assay result? because I think there is a modus about these platinums here in Davao.
