Title: Advise on Rock Drills
Post by: coolfun125 on November 10, 2010, 05:38:17 AM
Does anyone know what is the best choice when buying a rock drill to be used in boring holes into very tough concrete ?

We are comparing between a DEWALT Rock Drill ( 1.2 KW ) that would cost 40 k including an 18"  carbide bit and an AEG Combination Hammer Drill that would cost 30 K including carbide bit ( 750 W).  Naturally we want to opt for the cheaper one but will it be good enough to break super hard cement ?

Can anyone of our experts share his or her opinion or share their experiences please ?

You need a hammer drill in boring a concrete cement. Those two brands are good but if you can find a MAKITA brand, much much better. Hammer drill is much faster in drilling holes than a ordinary drill and choose a good brand of carbide tips too, some can not last long especially on very hard concrete. I hope it may help you.

used a "Dewalt" for years now, good professional drill and does the work too. never had a problem with it...
Makita is like the asian version of Dewalt, i would rather go for quality than cheaper ...

DEWALT, BOSCH, MAKITA and RIDGID are good brands. Opt for the Hammer Drill that hammers or drills or both at the same time. You will be much better off in the long run if you go for the better brands.
