regarding melting golds, i found something in alibaba.com where there is an electric melting furnace.   i found the same to be very handy and it makes me conclude that you can indeed melt your gold (if one has recovered a gold bar) right inside your backyard to remove any hallmarks or identification or serial numbers before you actually sell the gold bars to buyers.
