BIGGEST FLOOD EVER VISITED IN THE PHILIPPINES
« on: October 01, 2009, 01:23:08 AM »
Few years ago that a very popular flooding slapped FLORIDA in the US that creates chaos on its local population,,since then many more countries followed after that! this are the tailpins of the Greatest natural disaster occured in ASIA by TSUNAMI that killed hundred of thousands of people and displaced millions of families. 2009 has seen many disasters occured in many corners of the world...TURKEY was devastated by flooding havent seen in this country before, next is in TAIWAN where many villages were washed out from the eye-sight, then followed by the PHILIPPINES, the country is known to haves typhoon with at least 25 times a year, a natural occurense that happens in this pacific region which is natural to the populace,,,BUT september 25 is different,,,a rain that drops in the country for 6 months splashed for just 6 hours causing a havoc mainly in the city of 12 million and its nearby provinces...A disaster havent seen since 1965 as claimed. Devastation is unpresedented, cars floating with people on the top, people carried on top of debrises in the giant waves slammed on the bridges, millions are on top of the houses crying for help, kids and old folks desperately fighting cold from the continues flow of rain, soaked sea of people wading thru the road of sea of sludge....then follows the hunger and deseases....Rescue efforts were seen vulnerable as the number of people counts, 2 navy rubber boats cannot cope up with hundreds of thousands of least people in dire needs....But this time has seen with few occurence of political distractions as normally intrigued by critics and greed of mankind,,,Instead a hand in hand help from filipinos around the world and local populace, hot meals, old clothings, water and basic goods are popular and always available in any spots, donations and many containers of all survival tools/materials are heading to the ports organised by embassies and many filipino communities abroad,,,a sign that filipinos are ONE during devastation...that we are ready to help our land in great troubles and tragedies.. This time, a help from international community trickled very tight thought few countries donated with a mere few dollars but as a show of gratitude. US pledge $100,000 and JAPAN $75,000, An amount that cannot even cover the needs of least affected people for 3 hours...The magnitude of devastation is unvearable but the flow of help felt from passionate filipinos are much bold and natural, I just joked to my employees that im going to cut 30% of their salaries and to be donated to the destitute in the country and im very surprised and impressed that they never say anything against it and they did it! I guess this time we need to open some of our alleged caves full of gold (if not fool) to help our countrymen in need! this is the time to show real concern and not to leave those shiny metals rotting in caves for useless purposes, a gold which promised to be for the filipinos and not for few greedy impostors! this time is ripe and right to show for real and not leave it as history and myth,.(if there is) if we can do this good show-up for the populace,,,register yourself as aspirant for president and next day,,,ill see you sitting and owning the table of the president of the philippines.....

allow me the honor to reply first on this topic..... you dream will come true if we have a leader and only leader that is morally upright......the Philippines does not need any change, but moral. If we have a that kind of president, then i guess it is time to harvest those "yellow rays of the sun". For the mean time, for those who have successfully reap their harvest, share it, give it unconditionally, for we are just managers of this earthly goods. And when our time comes to end, we will be accounted to what we have done on this things. Don't be the one in the parables who questions Him on why he is in hell while the beggar is in paradise.

Peace!
That others may be praised and I unnoticed....

Helo everyone,
Great picture of the Filipino community during disaster..Great culture of concern and unity displayed after the flood...
I agree to the idea of giving, after all, we are just here on earth just for a while... I remember an old man who told me a story of two persons, one who is rich and the other very poor...One day the very person, even with his amount of money, needed to borrow money from the King, and promised to pay it comes due time...However, when the due date came, he did not have enough money to pay for his debt and pleaded before the king to give him more time to have enough money to pay for the debt..To his surprise, the King said that he understands the situation, and decided that this rich man need not to pay anymore. The King had more than enough wealth and didn't want this rich man to be having hard time just to pay for his debt. The rich man was so happy and thanked the King. When this rich man went out of the castle, he saw this poor man who owed him a few money...To his anger, he shouted at the poor man and embarassed him to the crowd...The poor man said he is sorry and asked for some more time for him to have enough money to pay for his debt, but the rich man yelled at him instead...

I don't know if this story is relevant here, but the message is clear...I'm just tryin to hit a nerve of those rich people who look down to the poor ones.

Cheers!

This story is touching...and had been circulating by millenium, and yet hadn't changed man's heart...
I'm not a negativist person, but whenever I look around, it sadden my heart to see things getting worse...
But sometimes hope helps, miracle might still happen.

bfgates,
You said the Philippines does not need any change and I totally disagree with you. The change that is needed is for the Filipinos, their Moral Discipline. Do not blame it on the corrupt politicians, they are there because the people put him there, for a few pesos they sell their votes and it cost them more in the long run. They know they are of questionable character, full of lies and unfulfilled promises, corrupt and anything but good but still they vote for that politician. Discipline, lets break it down,Driving, people drive on the wrong side of the road, pay no never mind to traffic lights, only in the Phil. that traffic lights do not do its job, no road courtesy and even in the wrong they have the nerve to get mad.Pedestrian Lanes, people cannot see it .Trash, the road or anywhere is a trash can. Metro Manila is about the dirtiest city I have seen. I am not trying to put down the Filipinos as I am a Filipino myself , just stating the facts. If one ever visited the US, HK, Singapore, Taiwan,Thailand, Japan, Korea,or even Mexico, just to name a few, one can see the big difference. Do a traffic violation like running a Red Lightin the US,it  will cost you around $300 or more, throw trash in the Freeway, anywhere from $300 to $500.You are caught Jay Walking, meaning crossing the street illegally, minimum fine of $50. Try to bribe a cop and you are in jail for sure.If the country can improve on Discipline, everything will fall right into place and that is what I truly believe and I am pretty sure most of the guys here that has traveled and visited other countries will agree with me.

Gener,

Are you referring to the Philippines here? Please clarify where these fines are from? I can't imagine the Philippines having such high fines.

Well Gener, If you are wishing or thinking those 'corrective' measures will be implemented and accepted by the Filipinos, then miracles is in the making and about to happen. Because I have seen a driver counterflow the traffic and justifies himself doing it, because he will be late in his date. A driver hits the smaller vehicle because it doesn't want to give way to the big vehicle (What am I driving a big vehicle for?). A businessman (driver) shoots the professional (driver), because both are correct and one must die to prove one is wrong...and so much more...So rules in Qatar is too much for the Philippines. it does not work that way to our 'beloved' land. One man was cautioned for spitting on the floor...and he answered back: Why? have I  lost my freedom of spit??!!  One man was cautioned  urinating in the sidewalk...He justifies himself: Where do you want me to urinate, in the middle of the road? don't you see how heavy is the traffic? If I get caught by vehicles and die, can you feed my family??!! Yeah!....What an intelligent reasoning...

THE TRUTH HURTS...IT REALLY, REALLY HURTS.

Trully talking,,You can even be shot if you argue with them...but look around how un organise and no self decipline people around you,,,garbage everywhere, blowhorning, shouting, vendors and name it all...its trully sad to say this but its the truth!! The sad part is that,,,people used to it and seems to be normal in everyday life...
I remember one story in the Philippines (my town) recently,,,There was a curfew as rebels are around the town..Local government implemented curfew that no people around the town at 10:00pm..all people must be inside their houses....One poor drunk farmer came from his field and he needs to go home knowing that its a curfew...When the police confronted him,,

Police officers: HEY Mr.! Why are you WALKING late in the night, dont you know that its curfew??
the farmer replied swiftly and said...
FARMER: yes sir i know that its curfew and walking is not permitted THATS WHY IM CRAWLING!!! dont you see???
***he was not caught as yes,,,he is crawling!! all those police were stunned...crawling is not part of curfew..... ;D

That is just part of some of mentality we need to change...

Gener, funny. Here is one for you but best said in Tagalog, sorry TW

Mrs: Naniniwala ka ba na ang babae habang tumatanda ay gumaganda?
Mr: Oo naman.
Mrs: Sa tingin mo, gumaganda ba ako?
Mr: Sa tingin ko, hindi ka tumatanda.

Bikolano.....

A Filipino guy from Bicol tries very hard to come to Canada. In doing so he spent all his money and sold all his valuables so after he gets out of the Canadian airport he takes the bus to go stay at his relatives' house.

He thinks to himself, "Galit na galit ako parang gusto kong pumatay." So he takes a out his knife and flashes it at some white guy standing there on the bus, The white guy then says, " Yo ! BE COOL man be cool!"

Then the Filipino guy says, "Oh Pasalamat ka, taga Bicol ka kundi pinatay na kita!!"
