the  number
Pd 106.4-46 is the atomic number for "Palladium" and the last 2numbers are the dated manufactured, yours 1946.
however that doesnt mean that yours is real(?), have it checked out first with a small piece...

Southern_cross,
Your specs is wrong and confusing. Dimension should be Length X Width X Height (thickness) and since it is steel, it is most commonly referred to as a Steel Plate, a Slab usually is made of concrete,ie;concrete slab, in common terminology. And what do you mean by Thickness Top: 6 1/4 in; Bottom: 6 in ?

Palladium

Palladium is found as a free metal and alloyed with platinum and gold with platinum group metals in placer deposits of the Ural Mountains of Eurasia, Australia, Ethiopia, South and North America. However it is commercially produced from nickel-copper deposits found in South Africa and Ontario, Canada. The huge volume of nickel-copper ore processed makes this extraction profitable in spite of its low concentration in these ores.

Palladium, together with platinum and rhodium, are primary components in autocatalysts that reduce vehicle exhausts emissions of hydro-carbons, carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen and particulate. Autocatalysts convert most of these emissions into less harmful carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor. Autocatalyst is palladium's largest and fastest growing demand sector, accounting for 49% of total palladium demand in 2006.

You should drill some shavings and bring those to McPhar Labs there in Manila. They can melt and analyze the exact metal content for you. You can find their address and contact info on one of the forum messages here.

I'm shocked at how many dicers made contact w/ me offering to buy the item, to the point of trying play us & deceive us. Scary! Another came & brought a (cellphone like) scanner w/ him, it tested positive. He said he's working for a jap buyer. I can't post the price offer here, sorry. He only mentioned something about Russian palladium coins, the xf1718 being the code.
What it is? ...i don't really know, maybe they do. I'll believe when I see the bottom line.

Then be cautious in dealing with buyers SC. Sure you got something in there but your discretion on how you should sell it and what price? Will it be more practical if you will have tested it first and what is the purity of your stuff so as to know the value per weight? Just my opinion bro.

How much are they offering you for that? I've seen plenty of this kind of 'unknown metal material' for sale throughout the Philippines and 99% of the time it's nothing but a nice looking piece of SCRAP metal. If I were you, I'd jump on the highest bid, grab the money and RUN away as fast as you can!
