Hey,

Please need some help, any thoughts and advice, brutal honesty is encouraged

Classic case of accidental discovery; contractor company excavating a canal up in a mountainous area, by some friends of mine in central iloilo, suddely encountered a very hard portion which could not be broken, coincidentally directly underneath a very very old Tugas (molave) tree, one of the local favorite tree species.

 whether it's natural or man-made, that is the question.

Some of the broken Stone (cement?) can be seen on the pile of soil which was pulled off the surface, along with the stump of the century+ old tree.

You can see the canal as it has been dug and laid, this is quite literally the only portion up the whole mountain where this peculiarly hard area was found.

  If that unearthed concrete is proven to be man made material and old tree was proven too as intentionally buried then that place might probably be a treasure burial site. "Positive" is the only word we can apply to it because regarding recovery is slim considering the current situation and the location where those things were found not to mention the complicated task in load spotting. You must keep in mind that treasure hidden by japs were scattered in a bizarre way with varying levels.

That cement thing on the pile of soil looks pretty suspect to me, I saw a similar thing happen in Leyte, near Ormoc, contractor, tearing up an old barangay road to lay a new cement one, found a cement layer, 4 boxes beneath. They said it was a quick shallow burial as that was part of the japanese path of retreat. Good Luck

Thanks Fom for your info. Yeah whether that is man made is yet to be proven. any quick test you can recommend to be sure it's cement?
Just one thing though, The tree stump was not buried, it was sitting on top of where they excavated, and according to the locals, that was once where the very old (pre-WW2) molave tree once sat. So they removed the tree stump and dug down a meter and hit something that they could not break apart from the portion you see on top of the soil pile. there is still a big portion of the hard stuff down there. and if you look at the canal 50 meters either side of this cement, it's all soft soil down to that level, only in this one place, under this old tree was this encountered. sure does make me wonder.

Hey Jackson.
Electronic metal detector is the right gadget for shallow loads. Those gadgets reaching atleast 5 or 6 feet is the best.  Assuming the concrete is loaded then your detector will hit it since there was no any soil signal obstacle at the top. If your gadget has no sound at all then probably the load is deep. No chance for quick recovery.

Yeah, it was cement, but not TH related. Just a drain off from the cement they used, when they were laying the road up there.
