I may be wrong but if solid steel then they look like giant pad eyes to me (for construction work).

Where did you get them?

Hi King,

That metal is a steel-rolled with specific gravity of 128.66 grams/inch cube. The weight of 72 kilogramss conforms with the said specific gravity after removing the volume of the 4" hole and the edges.
Please see attached drawing.

the specific weight is higher than rolled steel. it is closer to sp. wt. of bronze

No power tool could cut such thick metal and if it was used there it would be a completely straight cut (not jagged). I believe that would have had to be cut with a cutting torch.

Hi TW,

Based on the drawing I made below, piece to be attached to a structure looks similar to it. Its purpose is to ensure a full weld is done between the base and the piece. With that, if removal is required, is easier using an acetylene or disc grinder. But sometimes if the area is a fire hazard, disc grinder is used since hot beads are more easier to contain than acytelene.
Actually, the pieces shown above are considered 'small' compared to the same type use in oil rig structure.

Hi Capt. M.

Rolled steel, bronze, cast iron, bronze-lead and others have almost identical specific gravity.

MATERIALS                       SPECIFIC GRAVITY (grams/cc)
bronze - lead                  7.700 – 8.700
bronze - phosphorus             8.780 – 8.920
bronze (8-14% Sn)                 7.400 – 8.900
cast iron                              6.800 – 7.800
iron                              7.850
steel - rolled                  7.850
steel - stainless                  7.480 – 8.000

I considered steel because of the required strength in performing the work, where bronze will not perform the same.
Regarding iron which also have the same S.G. with steel, it has more carbon percentage compared to steel. Steel is  the product of pig iron after reducing its carbon content.

Angel,
They do not require welded pad eyes to have a 'V' at the bottom. It would have just been straight on both sides with fillet welds all around there. Definitely that is plain old carbon steel and does look like a huge pad eye. A cutting torch would have been used to remove it off of its original structure. No grinder can cut such thick piece of metal.

Yes I know, but the color of the metal is closer to bronze and the sp.wt. is slightly higher than that of rolled steel. regardless of its strength where its use was not defined.

yes i use'd to try magnet, but not so strongly hold or
very tight, there is only a part or portion that hold it...

Gents,

Bring it to junk shop and sell it for kilo, so that all of your analysis and guesses is over, no amount of miracles will make it into precious metal anyway, oks?
(Ipakilo na yan, para matapos na hula nyo, bakit ba pinagtatalunan pa ang bakal na yan?)
